Hi all. Considering an offer with a well-funded, mature (but still privately held) startup. Senior person there has told me employees have been successful in selling shares on secondary market, pre IPO / pre acquisition. Has anyone sold private equity before, as a mid level employee without connections or huge % ownership? Is that realistic? Sounds great, but I'm skeptical.
I tried with my last job but the market said nobody cares if you have less than 100k
EquityZen and SharesPost. The former I think is large blocks bought by a purpose made fund per company/offering. The latter has a minimum 100k transaction amount.
Helpful, thanks. I see sharespost has a list of eligible companies and this one is on it. So maybe after a couple years of vesting it's possible...
It is possible but you need to have a nice chunk usually. I’ve done better selling shares to friends or others I’ve met. Also, be advised you may not be able to sell them based on your agreement, so be sure to double check

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Without huge % you probably won't get anyone interested.
