Senior Software Engineer at. Zalando, Berlin

I got an offer from Zalando, Berlin with a TC of 85k€. The compensation doesn't have stock or performance bonus component. Presently, I am working in India earning 70k€. Considering the cost of living difference I think it'll be difficult to sustain in 85k€. What should be a good number considering my current salary and cost of living difference in mind. I prefer to stay in a lavious house with maid and cook for assistance.

85k in Berlin let's you live like a prince. Check the median income in Berlin and living costs are quite affordable besides housing.

I'd say India makes more sense in your case. While possible, having servants is not part of the culture here

Dude, you must be having a 6 month probation and the people here can be toxic as hell. Forget about all Indian luxuries or comforts, even finding a home is not a matter of money. You will definitely save less than India and maybe working more intensely. 56 lpa at 6 yoe is too good. Don't think they will welcome you for your prior experience or anything.

You can easily take out 1000 Euro per month as cost of living - rent, food, transport, etc. - on the cheaper side. So, that reduces your TC to 72k to begin with. In India, all this might be costing you about 300 Euros per month. Come here only with a strong backup in case things don't work out and you gotta go.

Plus : No benefits or freebies. The German work culture is quite different than American one. And the language gap.

Stick to India, mate! You’ll make more money after taxes in Bangalore than in Berlin. The European dev market is fucked up.

Hotwire MrSapiens Nov 24, 2019

Very true!

Financially it doesn’t make sense. You can use it as a stepping stone to move to somewhere else paying better.

Hotwire MrSapiens Nov 29, 2019

Stepping stone is the only benefit. Engineering isn't good there.
