Long boring wall of text coming up.

👋 I have almost 10 YOE, mostly working on mobile apps. I’m getting bored with anything new that comes from Apple/Google, and getting bored with building UI in general.

There’s definitely fun to be had in build tooling, which Ive participated in many times over the years, especially with enormous Swift projects, but I think in the long run that’s not “essential work”, or at least in my perception. I think build tooling can be an easy cost-center trap.

Anyway, when Im looking for jobs, especially remote jobs, there seems to be 10x more backend engineer job postings than mobile.

Ive built simple stuff in Node and Python in service of all the apps I’ve ever worked on, but I dont really have an idea that forces me to go deeper.

tldr: have other people made this switch deep into their career? what does that look like? Is working on a Python or Node transferable to Go or something else in this world?
