Is a 250 base for an highly experienced engineer in the bay area common at a startup? I know it’s common at google etc... but do startups typically pay less then that for experienced engineers?
Not sure how common but a company paying 250k base is no longer in the startup territory and likely in growth stage and have already found strong product market fit. Lot of startups transition out of startup mode when they raise series B or C.
Not common imo, but you could probably find it.
How much experience? I hire engineers at a series C startup, our cash packages are no where near this
Im a series d/e startup in SF and im pretty sure 250k base is what we pay the director of DS (he’s on h1b so it’s easy to see)
The issue with the question is in "highly experienced engineer." That could mean anyone with 5+ yoe, or it could mean someone who has worked up the technical ladder or made a name for themselves and could actually earn as much as a director
Yeah expect a 30-40% pay cut on total comp. the idea is obviously that your stock options more than make up for that in the long run.
