Hi everyone. Posting for my bf. My boyfriend got a return offer for ServiceNow new grad technical writer and he's trying to figure out what to think of it - Location: Kirkland, WA Base: 76k RSUs: none lol Relocation: 6k 10% yearly target bonus: 7.6K TC: 89.6K It's no engineer or PM salary, but I still think they're low balling him a lot. Top performer during internship with a CS degree from a top school. I have no idea what technical writer salaries look like, so other opinions are super welcome. Also, offer is non-negotiable. ServiceNow says it's already top of the band and they can't move.
Absolutely a low-ball. And I mean no offense but if I were him I would just try to interview for engineering roles given the CS degree from a top school.
He prefers engineering adjacent roles over actual engineering so he's shooting his shot with that. I'll let him know tho. Thanks!
For engineering adjacent roles maybe he should look at applying for Associate Product Manager roles and UX/Product design? I'm just a SWE so I'm not very familiar with these roles but they can get pretty decent offers according to levels.fyi
Thatβs a great offer for a new grad technical writer.
Even without any RSUs?
Tell him to avoid ServiceNow. Itβs a shit show and not much to learn.
Too low. Holy shit.

Too low. The cost of living is also high here. Did he wind up taking the offer?

Zero RSUs? That's unacceptable. If they view him as a long term employee, they should reward him with RSUs. I would come back asking for at least 250 RSUs vested over 4 years.
That's what I said! When trying to renegotiate and he asked about RSUs, they specifically told him no
He can be a technical writer anywhere. It's an "employees" market I wouldn't take it and look for something better.
