Don’t think I’m on the chopping block but with a forthcoming NI and PIP my thinking just goes towards considering all possibilities and I’m just curious as to what Google generally does for severance. Is there a formula of weeks per years worked? Does it depend on other factors like PA, etc?

Every large company has defined paths to push out underperformers.

@Amazon is correct, even Microsoft fires underperformers.

Every company has a curve, some are most restrictive than others. Meta has one, Google has one, Amazon has one. What makes Amazon different is that they set a URA target for the fiscal year at the beginning of each year and work to meet that quota. What also makes it tough is that they bucket *everyone* on that distribution, every level and every discipline at the Director level, so buckets are huge (both for TT but also for LE). The thing that seems more forgiving is that Meta (like Google) for example has a "suggested" curve that is done per discipline, per level and it's only looked at at the end. If you don't meet it to the letter at the Director level, then you are not looked at like if you had 3 heads if you have good justification(unlike Amazon). Source: I've been M2 at all 3 companies. Also, FWIW for example, it's been 2 years in a row that Alexa Devices hasn't met their URA quota at Nedim's level. So we are not firing as many people as we have been in the last couple of years. So that curve is starting to look more forgiving as the other companies mentioned above.

Is Alexa or lab 186 or whatever it’s called more aggressive historically on pipping out staff across multiple roles?

The general formula is 2 weeks for every year of service. Some employers allow for some wiggle-room for negotiation, but it often depends on if you’re in a protected class, etc.
