Situation at work is weird, I cannot tell if I am about to be promoted or put on PIP, have no idea of my real footing with employer. This is because the actual work is going to 0 and politics are going to the moon. I feel this is org wide / company wide trend. How do I manage this uncertainty?
Could you tell us more? Sounds like a very interesting story!
Each time I ask directly from manager says things are good, keep doing as is, but I am starting to not believe it, something in the delivery is off. I am used to working hard and have been asking for scope/large projects but I keep getting put on (dozens of) distracting Google doc / email / slack threads weekly (none of which lead to code change) and as far as actual work I keep being assigned tech debt and small projects, told to define my own work (but surely there must be SOME guidance and general direction?)
I’m not a manager but I train newbies on my team. When I got nothin for them to do, that’s what I’d tell them. I think it’s manager speak for “I got nothin for you.”
Lyft?
tc?
Depends on how much the stock drops but like.. 380?
Coming from Uber, I’d highly suspect layoffs. Basically the high level managers smell blood and are trying to make themselves look as good as possible/decide which people will be laid off. It started similarly at Uber: First was with marketing, then engineering/product/DS. If I were you I’d start Leetcoding. Also Uber is hiring lol.
Layoffs are coming John Snow.
