As a worker in the US, I feel completely powerless. The cost of living outpaces the wages, the hours are longer and longer, and with at-will employment, I worry about losing my job every single day. The inequality gap is ever widening, and the rich have full control over the rest of us. Economic forces drive us into the cities and cram us into apartments with no hope of ever owning a home or becoming independent. Not to mention the bullshit going on in the Whitehouse right now. What the fuck is the point in keeping on in this society.
You should quit and become a spearfisher: https://www.instagram.com/tv/BpTIXg7BXC8/
What are you talking about? The unemployment rate is historically low and your LinkedIn salary put you at top 10%. The inequity is big but you are at the rich end and your TC probably quadropled the teacher or social worker in your neighborhood. Even if you were laid off, you would have no problem getting another 6 figure salary job in a few months if not shorter. Just look at the mirror see how privileged you are. What's wrong with living in apartments in the city? Majority of the population in Europe live in the city and young people in the US are also ditching car culture and surburbs and moving into the city.
Unemployment is low because people are working multiple jobs and still struggling. The top 1% wealth far outshadows the TC of any tech worker.
This is not depression. This is being overwhelmed by forces that govern your life.
OMG you work in LinkedIn that suposedly pays ok and you feel bad. Just imagine how would u feel if you worked in McDonald's or Walmart?
Good point
There is no point in comparing really. The suffering a low wage worker experience can be the same as a high-tech worker from a subjective perspective. And this is the only one that counts. @op I completely feel you. What you are feeling is the proof you haven’t been brainwashed. Love and light. DM me if you feel like it
Get out of the Bay Area/NY/Seattle. You'll be able to afford a nice life.
Leave ur job, get a tile installer business license, move to outside of city small house, work ur own hours but work hard. U will feel the difference. I have a guy who is looking to hire tile guy at $30 an hour. U NEED TO GET OUT AND SEE OTHER LIVES, I don’t think ur life is as bad as u make it sound. Come visit seattle, I will show u around.
There is no such thing as a tile installer business license. At least not in US
I tried shortening my sentence and put two thoughts in one sentence. But for u who has trouble understand I will elaborate... 1- open a business license u can set ur own working hours and working load! 2- example of work u can do is install tile, or any other construction trait can be easy to get started.
I live in SF, so I see where OP is coming from. I’ve lived in cheaper cities, but the TC was $80-$100K less. So, it can feel like a catch-22. Cheaper places also have lower salaries. You never really get ahead. On the flip side, I get to live in an amazing city and drive my old car all over California. So I don’t see myself ever leaving the Bay. Suburbs are boring IMO.
Welcome to Life, son.
Move to Europe
I hope you are not an American citizen because it only gets worse as you age. Have you seen what happens to old people here? Mortgage defaults, healthcare disasters, divorces, bankruptcies, ageism, constant pressure to just stay afloat. Moving to another country is not a bad idea.
