I went to an interview from 6:30-7:30pm. I met a top exec of a fast growing tech company. His first question was: “Do you have children?” I said yes, I have two. Then he said: “Who’s with them now? Why aren’t you home with your children?” Needless to say, the interview went straight downhill from there. I told the recruiter about these questions but he just made excuses for the guy. What would you do? #metoo #gender #womenintech #interviews

Pretty sure he broke the law.
Right...interviewer cannot ask about your family, children etc...very much against equal opportunity laws
How small of a company are we talking about?
Pretty big enterprise company at this point. And growing quickly
Look up someone higher up in the food chain either in HR or that person’s direct supervisor on LinkedIn and share feedback about your experience. I’d frame it as constructive yet honest and see where that gets you. Companies need to know when someone that represents them behaves this way as there are probably other promising candidates being treated similarly, and possibly even existing employees. I think leadership has a right and responsibility to know and should also be given a chance to act accordingly. Also be sure to reach out to someone on the “HR” side of HR, not the recruiting arm. Recruiting will be embarrassed but has no direct authority to fix the issue.
That is 100% illegal, you don’t have to take that
Post his name.
Punch him in the fucking face
I had one manager asking me during an interview if I cried easily. He probably did it to test my reaction. However, I bet he would not ask it to a man...
That’s ridiculous as well. So what if you do or don’t cry easily? Sounds like he likes to intimidate people
Post the name of the guy and company, else what’s the point of complaining here
Law facts here: It IS illegal to ask personal questions that can form bias and discrimination in an interview such as “how old are you?” “What is your race?” And guess what... “Do you have children”. It doesn’t matter what else he says he already broke the law. If you don’t report him it will happen again and again. Please do the community a favor and please report him.
I did report him to the recruiter. They don’t care.
