Currently in a weird spot in terms of yoe. (2-2.5). Too much experience for entry level or 1-2 yoe jobs, but not enough for roles asking for 3+.

Got an interview for a lower level role but I think I could be qualified in terms of expertise for the manager level role. I've looked at LinkedIn for people with the managerial role at this company and it varies greatly..there's a handful of people with my level of experience but mostly there's people with the 3-5 yoe the job listing asks for (generally 4+)

I plan on asking the recruiter to be considered for the manager role but any ideas or stories on doing this successfully? I plan on asking to be considered for both positions (the associate role I applied for and the manager role) and then determine level during later stages but I'm worried this is just setting myself up for them to come back and say I'm only a fit for the lower role.

2.5 yoe? Thatโ€™s an executive amigo. Donโ€™t settle for anything less than a VP. Maybe Senior VP

It is worth a shot to ask, but depending on the company they might not budge. However they might be able to give you bigger compensation to get you to the top of the lower level.
