Hi fellow blinders.

For the research scientist positions, do you guys suggest that I aim for:

A. Number of papers (i.e publish as many papers as I can, as co/second/third authors) or
B. Quality of papers (i.e smaller number of papers with first authorship with oral / spotlight)?

I mean the best would be a lot of papers with good quality, but I don't think I can handle that lol

Do HR people look at citation count / h-index when for RS positions?

Area of research : CV/ML

I sincerely doubt that HR people are looking for a specific h-index value. Few great papers is superior to many shitty ones. Focus on quality. But why are you asking exactly? Have you got many publishing papers already and are looking for a way to build your CV or something?

HR will only screen by things like school where you got your PhD, previous industry experience if applicable, and perhaps number of papers. They will pass on screened applications to the hiring manager, who will look at your profile more holistically than those metrics alone.
