Shall I proceed with Amazon interview or turn it down??!!

Hi Blinders,

I truly need your advice please. Amazon contacted me for Finance L6 role in Seattle but i was hoping to join Amazon on L6.5 to L7 job based on my years of experience, plus the salary range after pushing the recruiter a lot is way less than what i was aiming for to change cities.

I am not sure about the right thing to do, shall I agree with salary range the recruiter mentioned and proceed with interview then if passed to turn the offer down if they did not agree with my final price, or shall tell the recruiter that i will pass this interview due to TC is less than my expectations.

Do you think if I managed to show them my skills in the interview they might upgrade me to L7??

Please share with me your opinion based on your amazanian experience.

Do NOT get leveled down. You will not get promoted fast. It’ll take you 3 years to get to 6.5 and another 3-4 to make 7. I worked in AWS finance as an L6.5. You will regret this and fuel a lot of animosity as you look around and go “are you serious? I’m leveled with these other fools? What a fucking joke.” Add to that the significant money you’re leaving on the table for 6 years of under leveling. You’ll be poor in Seattle as an L6 in finance. Don’t get screwed !

If you want L7 don't interview for L6. There is no upside there.

You should do the opposite, show a couple of L7 roles you're interested , and if that doesn't work out they might downgrade you to L6 in offer stage.

L7 Finance at Amazon is daunting. The work life balance is pretty bad and the scope is broad.

Unless you’ve been managing global teams at Coke I don’t see how you could even be considered at L7.

According to data on here low end L7 in finance at Amazon is $250k. Less than L7 tech but still good money.

I have an opposite advice everyone is giving you here. If you can negotiate your compensation range go ahead with L6. It’s just more relaxed (if there is anything relaxed about Amazon) to enter the org. You’ll get what you want eventually.
Plus, interviews are always helpful. What do you loose interviewing?

Don't join at a lower level even if they promise a promotion within a year. The pay band will impact your compensation. Know your worth and fight for it. What is the TC at L6 they are offering?
