Got offered 120k CAD + 125k USD stocks with 3 year vesting. Currently make 130k at a private company. Any idea how much senior engineers make at shopify? Trying to avoid getting low balled.
Which city is it in? And how much experience do you have?
Toronto, close to 4 years
I didn't know they paid so much. Total comp of 200k seems very high in Canada. For reference, I'm making about 200k also as sde2, but that's only because my stocks have tripled since joining. As for your question, I think their offer is really good but it probably won't hurt to negotiate a bit.
Unrelated to comp, but it’s crazy how this company is growing. I remember the CEO used to post on this gaming forum I visited and posted about some idea for a new shopping platform. And now he’s a billionaire
Shopify is doomed
This sounds like the big kid is scared of the new kid on the block (As it should be)
Used to work there, got in before it went public so got shares at $17. Great company, and cashing out the stocks after resignation made for a very healthy payout. The personal development there is hard to beat, and there is a lot of potential for upward movement. Shopify's goal is to be the place where you do your life's work, and is absolutely worth the move.
How was the wlb?
I think it really depends on the role. Everyone at Shopify is reeeeealy into Shopify, but I think some positions are able to shut down at the end of the day more than others. The workforce skews a bit younger, but they were starting to hire more people with families, and more people were starting families when I left. I think it's a lot of what you make it, and if you put boundries in place, most of management are respectful of that.
It’s a good offer. Raises are also based on Impact so if you work hard ship solid projects it’ll go up
Looks good offer. How is the work culture at Shopify? Any resemblance to Amazon?
How are the remote positions? Do they pay as much as office ones? I saw they had lead positions available in their website. Is this same as senior? What are teams to avoid if I care about wlb? I have a baby on the way
Honestly wlb is what you make it at Shopify. People respect you when you draw limits. That being said many people are very driven and do work overtime so there maybe a feeling like I need to do the same. During orientation they do talk about this and how it’s ok to say no. I’m not sure I know of any leads who are remote. Leads have more responsibilities in making sure people are growing as humans and in their job. This would be for people leads. For technical leads they’re job is to work on the massive projects spanning over multiple projects. So yes there is a difference
Any idea how much should I expect in Canada at shopify? Presently in USA earning close to 200k/year
What's your job? Level? Yoe?

How to save India from destruction?
That stock is gonna fly
Yeah true. My only concern is they're paying me lower than others in the same role in the company.
