Should Boeing not outsource to cheaper labor?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-28/boeing-s-737-max-software-outsourced-to-9-an-hour-engineers What are your thoughts on their practices of outsourcing software related labor abroad but then having so many issues with the 737 MAX? It seems like a pretty normal thing to do, but the tragedy was pretty bad...thoughts?

I feel like outsourcing happens all the time without negative consequences.. But perhaps Boeing could do better to vet its contractors' practices

$9/hr would get you $9/hr quality, this is fine maybe for internal HR webapp but not for a plane. Boeing should find a better/competent contractor

Never seen anything positive happen while working with offshore. Wasn’t surprised to hear that cheap labor was part of the 737 max stuff. You get what you pay for.

this article, like so many, seems to conflate the issue of software lifecycle and systems processes. so far, it does not seem there is any evidence that the software did anything other than what was expected of it. HCL or not, the design of this feature (not necessarily the implementation) had issues. in other words, If you want a ham sandwich, but order a turkey sandwich, who’s fault is it that you got a beautifully executed turkey sandwich?

People are commenting without knowing how planes are built. It doesn't matter if it is 9$/hr or 1$/hr. There are FAA standards whose objective is to eliminate any kind of issue. Every failure has to be deterministic. What happened is sad and it isn't because of this click bait articles. BTW know that same/similar skill set of people work for airbus, embrear, gulfstream, trains and even presidents and kings special flights. Rules and checks are same.
