Should FB compete with AWS, GCP, OCI, Azure, and the like?
More option is always good for both the business and consumer.
No one would use it
They could offer a service to develop russian bots
They could harvest enterprise data and privately sell it to a company like Cambridge analytica
With their privacy track record. No company is going to run there stuff there. That’s a good one. 🤣 I think Oracle Cloud would have better market penetration than they would. H3ll I would run on AliCloud before I would run on any Facebook cloud. There’s enough cloud diversity in the cloud. You currently have 6 options. You have: AWS (leader) Azure (number 2) GCP (number 3) Oracle Cloud - OCI IBM Soft Layer AliCloud
Imagine all that information at their fingertips to harvest. I’m sure they already thought about it.
OCI and their global domination, killing it with new kW regions lol.
🤣🤣🤣
lmao that’s the same as using Yandex Cloud
too many competitors, too late to market, it would be a waste of fb's money
Fb got some of the best engineers out there . If they do it, good chance they can do well.
Having good engineers has very little to do whether you can build a successful cloud company. Google is struggling to be even 3rd place in the cloud world. GCP (Google) lost $5.6 billion last year (2020) trying to compete with AWS and Azure. They have great engineers why are they losing money in the cloud game. If all they needed was great engineers they should be destroying AWS. Instead AWS (Amazon) broke their own revenue record and made $13.5 billion in profit in 2020 and that’s just money they made in the cloud. So, if FB entered they would not win because they have great engineers. They can’t even be trusted with customer data do you think other large enterprises are going to give them their data.
Are really that dumb to not understand that cloud is a scale a game and loss is attributed to building critical infra pieces that going to deliver profits in the future. Amazon kept on losing money till early 2010s.
the infra is not stable enough for that. The best thing is what they are trying to do now. Build services that make it easy for noncoding people to show their products to a large audience.
Need to diversify
