New model (Mk8/320hp) looks awesome, and I just signed a SWE offer today with a $70k signing bonus!
The car will cost about $48k (manual) but is a great daily driver that can also be a beast on the track if I want to bring it there. It has AWD so I can get up snowy hills in the winter for skiing. I like the sunroof, leather heated/ventilated seats, Harman Kardon speakers, and heads up display as well.
Also maybe thinking the GTI which is about $16k cheaper.
Comment below if you think I should get a diff car? Only debt I have is a $2600/mo condo mortgage.
YoE: 5
Old TC: 155k
New TC: 360k remote, MCOL

But srsly it sounds like cars are important to you, so if you want a hot hatch and can afford go out and get it! If you're really concerned about money and your budget you can still get a fun car that isn't $50k.
I used to splurge on tuners and working on my cars, but oouuccchh muh back so I drive a boring comfy car now.
Cheaper "fun" cars I'd like would be GR86/BRZ, Miata RF, WRX (i'm definitely more of a fan of japanese makes than euro) off the top of my head. Getting closer to 45k I could go for a Supra or fancier BMW 2/3/4 series. I'm a big fan of the GTI too, but if you get that instead of the R you're probably gonna think "damn I shouldve got the R"
