Hello Blinders, Happy thanksgiving :) I am in a dilemma and looking for some advice. I live in Mountain View (transferred recently from NYC) and like to go to SF over the weekends. However, the cost of Uber/Lyft gets too much at times. I know I am wrong when thinking like this but when I see people around me trying to save more and more all the time I don't feel like splurging on a new car :/ Further, I like to drive and wouldn't be happy with a 10-15k car. I like the Civic Type R which would cost around $40k including taxes, registration etc. What should I do? Should I just buy the car, because YOLO? Has someone been in a similar situation, what did you end up doing? Thank you! TC: ~200k
I just got Ford fiesta 2017 for much less than 15k, and it's small and easy to drive and easy to park.
Is it an ST? Which year is it?
If you don't have a car, buying one at <40k is not extravagant. But keep it for at least 6 years.
Dude!! No car in a place that does not have great, as in, every 2 minutes there's a public transportation alternative, actually means you are handicapped, so live a life!!
Yes
If you arent married then maybe you can survive without car. Else it is needed for sure. Relax on the 40k deal and find a reasonable model <20k. Don't burden out or lease out on a longer term
Shop used ones at Carmax
People like to use YOLO when they want to be reckless. Only spend 1/10 of your income on a car. So based on your TC, spend only 20k
Look, what good is all that TC if it can't make you happy? Buy a good CPO so that you get the best of both worlds.
If you are willing to spend 40k on a car you should get a Model 3 instead of a Civic. Just saying.

Not sure what part was funny.
Sorry lol You save money based on your own goals. Shouldnโt really be based on what others are doing. You seem to be frugal hence your hesitation to buy it. Consider leasing it. Itโs probably easier to transfer the lease than to sell a $40k luxury car.
