Hi, I’m relatively new to this app but spend a considerable amount of time looking through a lot of the posts. A little bit about me: Graduating the AT&T Technology Development Program (2 year rotational post grad position most newly grads will enter in thru) about to get a new permanent position with a salary in range of $105-120 depending on what org I decide. Salary: $95k + $7k bonus TC is listed at $120k 2 YOE I really love the WLB at my company, it’s truly great. I never am stressed about work, some days I literally have nothing to work on. Always am able to get time off even a few days in advance. I’m on a great team and I’m pretty well known across the company. The time spent on this app I keep seeing outrageous TC that are double and triple what I currently make. Yes, I value my WLB heavily, but if I can make even $20-30k more I don’t mind working harder for it. My question is, how attainable are these jobs really? Is it worth it to pursue other companies and where is a good starting point to research the more lucrative career paths. Should I not take for granted how easy I have it and how good my pay already is? I’ve gotten a raise 4 times since I began, surely this isn’t something normal at other companies. I’m not the best coder ever but I definitely can hold my own and contribute on time to any team. I feel as though my soft skills have carried me, however, as I am a great presenter for large crowds and have been handpicked to lead a few conferences and internal organizations. Definitely have some imposter syndrome but I try not to let it get to me. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Can you tell us where you live? If you live in a MCOL/LCOL, or if you're saving enough, I'd say coast for a little while, enjoy your youth a bit and in a while you'll get a chance to LeetCode (because you'll hopefully still find downtime at work) and apply for positions that require a bit more seniority. You could also think about pursuing passion projects, starting a consultancy on the side, or small side hustles for passive ~ish income. Time is money, I hope this gets you a little closer to your decision. Fyi $120k @ 2YOE and amazing WLB is a good deal
>My question is, how attainable are these jobs really? Very attainable no joke. You seem very happy at your job. Perfect! Take your time and grind leetcode a little. > Is it worth it to pursue other companies Yes imo if you have student loan or any other debt you need to pay off. Just one signon bonus and you can live debt free. But make sure you research your desired company backwards and forwards. I mean *really* surf through all the reviews on Blind and drill your recruiter + hiring manager. Be totally 100% with them and confront them with the sore points because they need to sell their company to YOU Also, money isnt everything. If you have no debt + no wife/kids you are prob good to go its hard to say. I have wife + kids so I have no choice but to study/grind to get my current job where I am happy.
Just Leetcode, Google WLB is better than AT&T Tech roles. I see many great developers moved to Google
Practically every one under 40 at AT&T, in any kind of technical position, is looking to move if they have got a few years in. After 4-5 years, the unending bureaucracy, masquerading as "process" will start to weigh you down. The WLB may be great but you will not to feel that you are not using your talents at work.
How is it tc so high with just 2 yoe at at&t?
Take it from someone with 3yrs under the belt and about to hand in their 2 wks, work plateaus here fast, and the never-ending bull from clueless management gets on your nerves. Start preparing/interviewing. Even if it takes a few months, you'll gain valuable knowledge of the field as well as yourself.

Advice here entirely depends on your life goals. It is easy to get caught up in the noise and lose sight of what is most important to you. I would recommend going through a journaling exercise where you envision what you want your life to look like in 5 years - what do you want to be doing, where do you want to be living, who do you want to surround yourself with? Get as specific and concrete as you can in this visualization, some people like to chart out a day in the life of this ideal future. Once you have a better sense of where you are going you can make decisions accounting for the tradeoffs which optimize your happiness and fulfillment. If your goal in 5 years is to be a home owner or well on your way to retirement then your next professional move will look very different from the future you who is more oriented around community building or family.
Really appreciate you taking the time to tell me this, I will give it a go tonight thanks!
