Should I feel bad for ordering Instacart? The dilemma is driving me crazy.

I understand that these people who deliver need to work to sustain themselves so it's a good thing when you order cause it gives them money but on the other hand I feel like I am putting them in unnecessary risk by making them go to stores and buy stuff for me. I do give them a very generous tip but at what cost? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Conundrum

Google hurhurhur Mar 30, 2020

They are free to either accept the order or not

Mailchimp ElroyJet$N Mar 30, 2020

Smh. You can’t be that out of touch. If you’re a driver who is likely financially struggling at a time like this, you have to make a decision, where the outcomes of both decisions could put your families wellbeing in jeopardy.

Google hurhurhur Mar 30, 2020

That's not my problem. I'm saying "whomever delivers me these items will be paid a certain amount of money". If there are willing and able adult takers who understand the risks and benefits and give an informed consent - great! Otherwise, I guess I'll have to go to the store myself

I am pregnant and in risky category. They are in need of money. It works for both. And the same thing for ordering from amazon.

congratulations on your pregnancy. 🤰 When is the baby due? How are you coping with the COVID stress?

If they strike, keep ordering to show what money instacart is losing by not protecting their employees.

where does it stop? uber/lyft drivers? airline stewards? grocer cashiers? restaurant delivery? all of these and more put themselves at risk to contract/carry the virus du jour, why should we single out gig shoppers?

If I were struggling with financial and can do side gig like Instacart, I’d happy to do this. Yes cannot 100% bullet proof but I think extra protection layers like mask, glass, gloves I think it’d be fine all the time. And it helps ppl that cannot go out to do their shopping, pretty much win-win situation.

Consider yourself lucky you still can. I can't find a single delivery window open.

The people striking represent such a small portion of the whole team. Even if it’s true 15k (which it isn’t, i would say at most it’s 500). But for the sake of their claim let’s say it 15k that’s 6% of the drivers. Also the people who are driving the strike initiative have their own grocery delivery app. Guess where they’re telling everyone to go while they strike Instacart. This is not and has never been about worker’s rights.
