Depends on what type of company culture you thrive in. IBM is traditional and very corporate. It may appeal if you don’t like the Silicon Valley style workplace, or it may drive you insane like the workers in Office Space
I thrive in an environment that lets me have the freedom to do my job, but doesn't expect my job to be my life.
I just left IBM and there’s a lot of favoritism there. If you don’t kiss ass you won’t last long.
No offence, but you just described the absolute vast majority of teams and orgs, across most companies...
Nah other teams I’ve been on weren’t bad at all but the IBM team was just worse with it
Noooo
There’s no such thing as a single IBM reality. IBM , like any other large org, has good and bad things. There’s no denying IBM has a lot to worry about when compared to large successful tech companies, but there’s still successful and enjoyable products and teams there. If you like the role, get the compensation you want and end up liking the team and the product, it can be a great opportunity for you. Don’t make your decision based on bad experience from others alone - all big tech have that.
No, don’t come here. You’ll pull your hair out and be expected to perform miracles. Pay is lowest in tech and near the bottom for professional services.
Run for your life.
Professional services are some of the first to go in any resource action
What business unit? They are all different, with different cultures and expectations
Why not look into AWS professional services? Their bar seems pretty low these days, maybe hiring like crazy
In fact, three of the worst people I’ve ever worked with at IBM recently landed at AWS. The bar has to be sub zero.
Really ^? I need to get an amazon offer!
Fuck no!!!
Why not specifically?
We use IBM products and they are all terrible. I don’t have a single good thing to say about any of them (functionality wise or feature wise). They have a lot of docs I guess but they aren’t useful
