Should I interview for SDE I or SDE II at Amazon?

I am working with an Amazon recruiter and plan to interview soon with the Buyer Risk Prevention Team. After the Chime info session we learned the difference between SDE I and SDE II is that candidates for the latter will be asked system architecture and design questions. The recruiter said I can interview for either role. I am practicing medium and hard algorithms and DS questions on LC so I can be as comfortable as possible with these and I plan to spend some time studying architecture questions as well, but I’m not quite sure what to expect from these questions.
I have experience setting up Apache routing config files and high level, conceptual knowledge about how to make things faster with a load balancer, etc.
If I interview for SDE II and don’t perform well on architecture questions can I still be considered for SDE I? Or should I interview for SDE I from the start?

I'd say interview for SDE-2. It's just that one round of system design which will be different than a SDE-1 interview I believe. If you mess that up I think you'll still be considered for SDE-1.

Also learn to trust your freaking recruiter and ask these questions to them πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. They're there to help you out.

Every company has a different process and you asking questions shows them that you're interested and want to go through the process as better as possible. They're there to hire you, not set you up for failure.

Also, your capability is verified via an interview, not by how good you know their hiring process.

Apart from that it's good to know what level you're being interviewed for. For some candidates it could make/break the deal and better to know for you & the company each other's expectations out of the whole process.
