Got a offer from Citadel hf. The intetview process went very well and people seemed to be nice. But at the same time I am hearing a lot of scary stories, like the bottom 10% get fired or horriable wlb. Can anyone share how Citadel fire people? How is job security if I work really hard? I am on last year of STEM OPT and final chance of H1B (though they are willing to relocate me to London and then apply for L1). Should I join? Citadel tc: 300K Current tc: 230K yoe 2
Yes of course based on TC even though I hate them. Be aware that your TC will be adjusted down if you’re moved to London, but that’s fine I guess.
London TC is very comparable to Chicago. Unlike FANG Citadel doesn’t discount based on location
The bottom 10% get fired at Amazon and our TC isn’t even that high
There’s no hard rule saying bottom 10% get fired every year. Layoffs on the hedge fund side are probably somewhat more common than most tech companies though
Congrats OP these are good offers. Was the interview c++ based ?
no, java
Job security is not great. Reorg can happen any time and you will be upside down with a different manager. As you don't have a green card id chose something more stable. After you have one - sure go ahead.
If you are going to chase growth as priority #1, join FB instead. At least their tech stack is up to date. Don't compare "bad" WLB/stress by finance standards versus what people consider "bad" in tech, where the average employee works 40-50 hours per week. They are two different leagues apart.
It’s not like he has a FB offer and FB can’t match those numbers.
If OP can pass Citadel and Dropbox, it shouldn't be impossible to get FB. TC accrues over time as one's career grows, since it's not instantaneous.
