Should I move into SRE/DevOps or stick to SWE?

I’ve been getting a lot of unsolicited interview requests from top companies for SRE roles and it’s tempting. The job description honestly sounds interesting, and I enjoy infrastructure and automation problems. On the contrary, I also want to work on an actual product and enjoy shipping features. I’m currently a SWE and am on the market for a new job, and given my experience with infrastructure engineering I guess that makes me an attractive candidate for SRE roles. I’m just not sure if SRE is a dead end or if there is genuine opportunity for growth in the area and if it will hurt my opportunities to move back into SWE if I want to in the future.

Also I eventually want to move in to security engineering (my specialization in college), and I’m not sure what type of experience would make me more attractive to those types of positions. #tech #career
