I recently got a fully remote job at a compnay in the bay area. I am no longer tied to any particular location which gives me a lot of freedom. I’m considering moving to NYC, mainly in hopes to build better connections and maybe meet my future wife there.
The alternative is to stay in a cheaper area on the east coast with a lower cost of living. Thoughts?

Most people wanted remote so they can move to MCOL or LCOL area. You get remote so you can go to another HCOL area? What a waste of space

If you’re in your 20s, why not? Go and enjoy! Fuck these relentless TC chasers. If you’re on blind, then you’re most likely doing well and will be wealthy enough in the future.

@NetEnt Well said. I think a lot of people on here let the idea of early retirement or have x amount of networth from living their lives. I've traveled to smaller cities such as Minneapolis, Baltimore, Austin, SF, LA & nothing quite compares to NYC.

  • Move to NYC for a year, see if you like it. Stay if you do, leave if you don’t! Even if you don’t like it, you won’t regret trying it out for a year because you otherwise will never have known if it was for you or not

    • As an NJ native that has lived 25min from the city and in midtown, it's not the same. Dating in NYC as a commuter is very inconvenient. As a guy in his early 20's trying to go on dates with girls who live in the city, you need incredible pull for a girl to leave the big apple via bus/train to visit your less exciting Hoboken/Jersey City. It is even harder if you're getting drinks and you ask the girl to take the NJ Dot with you at 2am to go back to your apt lol.

This is for early 20s tho. I'd assume for mid/late 20s it wouldn't matter as much.

Aside from dating, I'd still suggest NYC for a year and see how you like it. NJ is still HCoL. I'd see it as a big waste for someone to live in NJ just to save a few bucks as you're missing a large part of NYC, which is actually living in it. As other people have said, you can try it out for a year (most people live in nyc for a couple of years then move out anyways).
