I currently work at Sears as SE2 who pays well but as a firm is in a bad condition. I recently got an offer from KPMG and they want to hire me as an associate in Chicago. This means a lower paying job (difference of nearly 15k in base) and a step down in terms of my title. I was referred to this position by a friend who works in the same team. He shared the insight of the role and it sounds more of an full stack developer with a focus on ML. I am not sure what to do? Also, how do I negotiate with KPMG?
Do you live in a more or less expensive place than Chicago right now? At minimum you should explain that the offer is less than you make now. I don’t think you have to qualify or elaborate much beyond that, just that you’d like to at least meet your current comp, etc. All in all I’d say to just keep looking, otherwise, though. Unless it really is a situation where people in your current department are going to be out of a job really soon because the company’s having trouble.
I live in the suburbs of Chicago. Just before the on-site they mentioned that the person on the first round of interview felt that I'm not fit for a senior associate but would be a good match for associate. So they warned me that I won't get the same as my current compensation. I had no other choice.
Unless you're going to be out of a job really soon and you're worried about having trouble finding another one then try to find a better offer elsewhere.
I will add that folks know Sears is DOA ( dead on arrival soon ). Also no offence but sears pay has been bloated in general in their effort to keep good talent on staying as long as possible. Push to have them atleast match your current offer or come close and take the lifeline from a sinking ship.
Make a blockchain project, put it on github and leave Sears only when they are dead. That way you can leave and make more $. Your Sears experience is worth a lot, don't sleep on it.
The issue here is that the work here is slowly dying. I have seen my 12 person team drop down to 4 person team and that too the 3 people other than me are new recruits. So I am the last one standing from the original team. Also, the work has moved more towards bug fixes more than project development.
I think you should take that Sears experience and move to programming milking carousels in Wisconsin. Then you get safer environment and more stable, predictable work over time. The curd bonus alone is worth the jump.
😂
I think you can keep looking for better one and also negotiate to match urs . Generally pay rise would be 3% .. to cover ur diff.. it might be atleast 4 yrs
I wouldn't take a pay cut. surely somebody in Chicago will pay you at least what you're making now
