Should I quit my job as a Sr data scientist at Visa?

So I have 3.5 years of experience and a Ms in data science. My base salary is 125k, no joining bonus or stocks ( HR said my team doesn’t get it) 10% annual bonus. Should I try interviewing for other companies like fb, uber etc. I am a sql monkey here and I feel it’s the same at fb. Looking for a role which is more towards ML and of course a higher pay. Any suggestions whether to leave or stay? I have been at Visa for 7 months now #datascience #salary

I don’t want to move to Seattle. Have heard it’s too depressing

Relative. I lived in CA, FL and Chicago but love Seattle more than any other city. You need to experienced it yourself to find out.

Why quit? Have a look around first

SQL is great to have, since most data scientists think everything is just CSV files :) but you will want to expand your resume/GitHub with some deeper ML to showcase if you want to move up fast.

Participating in a few competitions may be a good way to build your portfolio

What are some good comps? I did a data science competition recently came in at top 3 but it wasn’t that challenging

Where are you located? I'd try to make a year and use the next 5 months prepping. I don't really have a clue, but it always seemed to me that the good data science jobs require more than an MS

if you mean in terms of education, ms is enough

Guess it depends on what you consider good.

There’s a specific ‘Data Science’ team in Austin which is the one I was referring to.

What is your work location? If it is Texas, that is a good salary.

Move if you think you are not growing.

Yes, 100%

My recommendation would be to stick it out past one year - but in the interim look around internally and/or boost your portfolio through competitions or side work. After the first year, if things remain unchanged, then look somewhere else. Good luck!
