My manager keeps bullying about visa issue that happened few years back and few other assignments that were completed, when things go in his favor he dodges off and then picks up again on an old issue that was solved. I did all my certification training and he keeps saying that I don’t know “a” of work being done while his entire team gathered knowledge from me.

Whether or not you report them to HR, you should at least get out of this toxic situation. Switching teams at a minimum, or changing companies even.

I will also note HR doesn't always side with you. Their job is to protect the company from liability, not to protect you from uncomfortable situations. A lot of times, both goals can go hand in hand, but not always.

HR will never side with you. They will make sure you dont have any proofs of wrong doing with you.

  • Hostile work environments are never good for anyone. HRs should be aware of such situations. Do what you have to get out of such environments; going to HR, switching teams, switching companies… before that, let him/her know how you feel about this and your course of action if this happens again

    • There is no guarantee. I wouldn’t expect the HR to side with OP, but my goal would be 1) create doubts in the mind of the manager that there could be consequences for his action 2) create a paper trail that could help solidify his position . All he is doing is informing the stakeholders here about harassment, mental agony and manager overreach, not trying to get the manager fired; once this happens any counter action that the manager takes will be seen as retaliation; big companies have policies against retaliation.

HR will not side with OP or the manager. Taking side is not their job. The key is if there is a violation of policy and if there is evidence to prove or disprove it. Toxic manager is a risk to any company, but HR has to have solid evidence to proceed with disciplinary actions.

  • Go to hr but be prepared to leave if things don’t get better. Remember hr is not on your side, they act in the interest of the company
