Should I stay in Auto?
I’m honestly having fun working at Tesla. I like my co-workers and I find my work genuinely interesting. But people say the recession is coming, and I don’t want to be out of a job next year. If you work in Auto do you share the same concern? Given that our industry is notoriously influenced by the economy, should I stay or should I go?
Why leave the current branch with fruits you like to another so called stable branch on the same tree with or without fruits anticipating an unprobable wind which might knock the current branch off. The same wind can knock the other branch as well. Even if it doesn't, you might not like it there. Stay put.
I wonder if Tesla will get as severely impacted by a recession as other conventional auto manufacturers.
I worked with three big automotive giants apart from Tesla. Move if you want more TC! Other than that life would be slow and stable in Auto.
I love shitting on Tesla and think Elon is a misleading salesman. But, if you enjoy Tesla, why leave?
Tesla will be fine during recessions, others won’t (Cruise, zoox etc.)
Given Tesla’s current customers, they’re probably better insulated against a recession than other auto OEMs.
Your survey is too binary. If you have enough savings to survive a year and have no debt whatsoever, then I'd say stay. There are so many tech companies that are yet to make profit, why do you think you'll be saved there? Even profitable ones will probbaly have massive layoffs. And if consumers cut spending and cancel they subscription and so on - it can go out of control really bad. I guess I'm saying: Save like crazy, pay off all debt - resession is coming - be prepared.
BMW has been hit hard with economic downturns and also tariffs (yay). But I am holding on because I enjoy the exposure to new tech.

The timeline we’re on, from a political and economic standpoint, is completely unpredictable. If you like your gig stick with it.
