New offer 380k with hybrid policy.

Msft said they might be able to match and offer full remote. Considering taking due to full remote

If the counter makes your compensation much higher than the mid-point of your job grade, think twice. Down the road if you don’t get promoted to the next level, you may suffer from not getting decent or even reasonable salary adjust in the following years. Situation gets even worse if the new compensation penetrates to the next level.

What’s the downside of not getting raises for the next 5 years? You are essentially making more guaranteed money earlier in your career. If you just tell yourself that no merit increase this year is due to your current compensation and it is still more than you would make naturally, what’s the downside?

If the offer from the other company is the standard package for the new roll op gets, his compensation may grow better there. At this point op is mostly certainly getting a boost on compensation no matter he decides to stay or move forward. One thing to consider is the future growth, so comparing the two options he has, the downside of accepting retention is the merits may not increase. But as always, you never know what will happen, it’s just something to think about.

Can you at least share the pros and cons of two options if you do not want to share company name?

Otherwise, I don’t think the vote is meaningful.

Microsoft. If companies are willing to match 2 things will happen for you:
    1. You get the money you want (yeeey)
    2. You are now an investment that needs to be justified. You will be promoted faster because now more projects will come your way. (good if you want that or too much pressure if you don't)

    • I see, I thought counter offers are worst in that they know you want to leave so they won't care about you

It depends how you approach it. If you feel like they actually want you, then you will win a lot in this. On the other hand if you don't feel wanted, it might not be great to stay. Some manager keep people around this time because it affects their bonus and team budget. You might see unrealistic expectations from people like that if that's the case. Bottom line you'll get your increase. Congrats.

They're going to make you wait and then will disappoint you. Get a new promotion letter from Microsoft first before turning Newco down.
