We can all agree that at Amazon, we work for managers and not the company. While Amazon has a brand name, managers don't. So shouldn't there be a interview with you possibly next manager? What should be the questions? What should we look for?
I'm in the process of asking for lunch and/or dinners with a couple of managers. Your spidey senses will tingle during this time, which should give you enough data on the person you may work for.
Could you share with us what are you looking for. If you considered us a noob?
YOE 20. What I've noticed, after going through various companies and groups is if the manager seems overly friendly, they're usually the opposite after you join. I've also tested some, asking about skip levels. If they become dismissive, saying skips are usually too busy, then they probably don't give your existence too much value. I've had really great managers as a person and as a professional. During initial talks, they are honest.
You should do this no matter where you work
Did this for my most recent new job. New manager seemed ok. But on the other hand without really knowing them it’s hard to know how much they’re sugarcoating their answers. Even with tough questions I asked.
I've never thought about this before. Thanks.
