Should you put your Instagram/YouTube accounts in your resume?

I have an Insta account with >20k followers. Content is 50% tech/finance memes and satire, 50% tech/finance news commentary. Is it advisable to bring it up with your future employers, when applying either for IC or manager positions? Main concern being the humor might not be viewed the same by everyone... TC: 250k

100% depends on the role, company and your content

Tinder profile fits perfect on resume!

That's completely inappropriate, what's next, match.com profiles? Keep it normal like everyone else and only link your p***hub account.

I love your username

If social media is relevant to the jobs you will be applying for, then maybe yes. Otherwise it’s not applicable.

Some woke companies may not appreciate edgy memes.

NVIDIA EICs07 Dec 22, 2021

Only if it’s extremely relevant to the position you’re being hired for. Like if you’re a social media strategist. Otherwise you’re wasting the employer’s time and showing a bit too much excitement about a hobby that could be a distraction from your job.

Meta ehJW27 Dec 22, 2021

Could I convince you otherwise op? Tech industry is in general very light hearted and I definitely don't think you should have this opinion of "employees should not have side hobbies to be distracted from at work" Why can't people just be themselves, and get enjoyment and fulfillment from many different hobbies? If I were to hire someone, I would love it if they had a social media following! Few people have the commitment to work on something like this and grow a community.

NVIDIA EICs07 Dec 22, 2021

To clarify, I think anyone posting this question to blind probably takes running the social page ultra seriously. Which is great! Sounds like OP runs a solid page that people enjoy. A hiring manager could easily see this as being impressive, but could just as easily see it as a risk factor. Especially with some of the more restrictive social media policies some companies have. @Meta thank you for this reply. I hate your company but you’re alright!

Meta ehJW27 Dec 22, 2021

I would definitely do it op! You should be proud of a community you've built. You should be able to go be who you are in front of your employers. Someone so stuck up who wouldn't get enjoyment from this, I wouldn't want to work for!

Microsoft ohmicron OP Dec 22, 2021

Thanks. Are you involved in hiring? How would you view it if the satire (non incendiary) was related to the company you're hiring for?

Meta ehJW27 Dec 22, 2021

I would hire based on ability, I wouldn't hire exclusively people with the same taste of comedy/music/entertainment as me

unless it's relevant to role no point in adding it. i saw some harvard guy add something about rowing championship...who gives a shit

Recruiters wouldn’t mind but the nerds will get jealous while interviewing and ask LC hards.

Houzz happyHouzr Dec 22, 2021

Yes — you should especially if you are applying to google

Unless you’re interviewing for tiktok or IG, I don’t see how your internet clout is relevant
