Should you respond to recruiters that ping you for non senior and above roles?

If your past 3 roles are all Senior Engineer level titles and you are looking for new advancement opportunities, should you interview for or take a job for a non-Senior engineer role thats not from a FAANG or equivalent company? Would your resume be weird if you have Sr Engineer -> Sr Engineer -> Sr Engineer -> Engineer within 10 years?

If it pays more and less responsibility, then why not. TC is king or queen.

Title means nothing. Only TC matters.

The chain of command matters more than the title imo - even if you have sr title in new place you may end up being super embedded and unimportant if the org is not flat, and you may feel like a junior everyday which gets frustrating

I would value the job responsibilities and managerial hierarchy more than the title itself, as a resume lacking decision making after 10 yoe would be more weird than title changes

  • I am in pretty much the same boat, but a level up from your titles. (lead to senior). The problem i have right now - very hard to get any interviews for lead roles. I got few lined up for senior. I decided if my TC significantly improves with one of the potential job offers - makes sense to go for it, take money now and get back to than fixing title situation later (in few years) when market gets back to normal.
