Show promotion on resume/LinkedIn or not?

You get promoted from SDE to Senior during your time at a company. On resume/LinkedIn: Is it better to just say Senior at [company name] or to show that you were SDE for some time and then Senior after that at [company name]?

You were not senior the whole time. That should give you the answer. For resumes, you might merge them to save space if you had many roles though, but still indicate you were promoted to that role

is this for background verification purposes? so you don’t get sued later on for lying.

Sued for lying? I hope you’re joking, that is an insanely paranoid choice of words.

I prefer that people show the transition and duration of roles they held within the same company. I’ve seen some folks just put Director for their company for the past 13 years, which really dashes the whole point of trying to portray how your grew professionally from point A to point B.

Ya so that HR can down rank you for your recent promotion in your next jump

I break out my promotions under one company header on my resume.
