Has anybody ever felt pushed away and hidden from good opportunities after getting great performance reviews? i joined my current company as a team lead not too long ago. in this short amount of time, i have done the needful and gotten great focal reviews with discretionary equity. last week my manager has put me under another team lead and told me and said that me and my team now report to her now. I have noticed that all the design meetings and dtatus meetings i used to attend have removed me from their Outlook invites. i only came to know because other people have asked me why i did not attend those meetings. My new lead has been at the company longer than me. I was hired to be a team lead because i have a PhD and patents in the type of work my team does. i also used to lead multiple scrum teams at orevious companies, so i dont think its because I do not have experieince. I am feeling shut out at work. Has anybody had similar expiernences? Also, what did you do? Please Blind, share your wisdom with me! TC 400 YOE 12
Give benefit of doubt. Maybe your work is too important. And, your time shouldn’t be spend in meetings. Perhaps, you could have a lunch with your manager. You might discover a deeper intention on the change.
Thanks. I already scheduled a quick 1-1 with my manager to find more clarity.
I would seek clarity on the scope of your role. Reorganization is a part of business life.
1. You are a high performer no one likes 2. New lead doesn't like you or asserting lead role 3. You are great IC but not great lead material 4. A thousand other reasons Talk to you mgr and other people to get honest feedback. It could be things you are not seeing
Thanks. No 1 and 2 seem like the most likely reasons. I appreciate the objectivity
If you are going to ask for feedback, which you didn’t hear in your annual review, please go with an open mind and don’t be defensive. Most managers don’t like to give negative feedback and it’s tough if the other person isn’t ready to receive it.
😭
Such things are out of your control. Don’t feel disheartened. Remember you are employed to do a good job and no one can push you to do a bad one. Have patience and maturity.
