I was thinking about accepting a fulltime return offer for FTE after my Microsoft internship, which has a 2 week expiry window and then going elsewhere for my last internship before graduation anyways and taking the maximum offer out of those 2 + any other offers I may have for FTE interviews. Please note that I do not currently have an offer in hand for my last internship (although I did have a few other offers before), so I'll be looking for my last internship as well. What do you think about this plan? Is this viable or dumb? The main con is potentially burning bridges by reneging on Microsoft, but if I do end up deciding to take another offer, I would only do so if I saw reneging as being worth it (for a very good company for new grad). Also, Microsoft kind of opens itself to these tactics because it's unwilling to prolong its offer window, although I do understand why companies would want to have an answer right away. #Microsoft #internship #advice
What did you like about MS? Considering a new grad offer from them amongst other options.
MS has been nice to me (they treat their interns well), but I don't know how they would compare to Google/FB etc. and I may come across better unknown opportunities later on, especially since Microsoft isn't my last internship
Reneg if you get something better who cares, lots of companies, better then passing and the striking out elsewhere
@OP are you an Ivy League/MIT/CMU/Stanford student?
I would not do that, it can get you "banned" from Microsoft at least for the next couple of years. I would never want to get myself banned from a mega-company, want those always available as an employment option. Play the game straight-up, do your internships, then get as many FT offers and have them compete with each other. Don't accept an offer now with plan to renege, if you're even a half-way decent candidate you will get plenty of competing offers.
Thanks for your advice. However, how do you know backing off from the offer would get someone banned for the next couple of years? Do you have any direct account of this happening? But yes, want to burn as few bridges in the long run as I can As for offers, I'm not too worried about getting interviews at the very least, it's just that having Microsoft as a safety would be nice (and I do like Microsoft as a company, just that there are again more options for me to explore)
So what happens is a note saying you reneged gets placed on your profile. It’s not a ban but it may affect your future chances if people see the note. If you really feel strongly about a new opportunity then renege Microsoft but generally people don’t need to resort to reneging on offers to advance career. Explore alternatives first
Who cares just renege if you get a better offer

Reneging on MS offer is guaranteed blacklist, with huge repercussions on hiring candidates from your school as a whole. Had some idiot reneg on his offer and turns out MS stopped hiring candidates from my school completely for a year or so because of that. So if you go to a good school then definitely think beyond yourself and avoid being an embarrassment.
What? Edit: You modified the comment, but it used to be about you wanting OP to give you their MS offer or something.
