The whole tech industry is being institutionalized. Engineers optimize their life for money and prestige like douche finance bros. Smart new grads choose CS major for maximum TC rather than interests. We live insecure and antisocial life, yet we pretend to live a cool life by smoking weed, going to burning man and doing yoga just like how wall streeters smoke cigar, party with stripers, and play polo. We wear company logo t-shirts and Patagonia just like wall streeters wear nice watches and polo shirts. Sillicon Valley is no longer a breeding ground for innovation. Of course, I am no exception. I don’t think it’s necessarily good or bad. Just an observation of new trend.
I thought you all wear purple hoodies?
Damn it and I thought I was original
Do tech folks wear Patagonia t-shirts , shirts , jeans ? Or is it just the Patagonia sweaters ?
You’re safe, bro. We won’t judge your Patagonia t-shirt.
This is a serious question. The reason I ask is - I come from a three-letter-worded acronym company. It took me a while to figure the dress code there -( brooks brother shirt , wool trousers and dress shoes ) Because of me being slow learner on clothing , I want to make sure I get the dress code right for google / Facebook type company
what does Patagonia means? seen some guys wearing it, didn’t understand what message they want to share by wearing it
It happens anywhere there is significant money involved.
Yes silicone valley is a very weird place.
Calm down
The difference between silicon valley and wall st is that wall st jobs are considered prestigious outside of wall st, whereas no one really cares about your tech job outside of tech.
Cool story, bro
Yes when an area is dominated by one industry it tends to create a very annoying and samey monoculture. Can also compare how LA is dominated by entertainment industry
You are describing someone who is young , got money and looking for validation from society. It’s not necessarily just a Silicon Valley thing.
