Similar Product Analytics offers at Amazon and FB. Which one should I pick?

So I got very similar offers at Amazon and FB with almost similar work profiles. Which company should I pick? Location - Seattle vs Menlo Park. Role - Business Intelligence Engineer vs Data Scientist but both are mostly Product Analyst roles.

Amazon is a shitty place to work and FB is a great place to work. There are very very very few ppl that would say the opposite

While I have never worked at FB, I can speak a great deal about Amazon. Lots of Amazon bashing on Blind. Keep in mind that there is inherent bias as to the population on this app as they downloaded it for a reason and many times that reason is to vent. Amazon has received a lot of bad press - some justified and some not. Biases aside, it really comes down to the manager of a specific team which is the same issue you’d be having at any company. I’ve been at Amazon almost 20 years and I still get up each day looking forward to the work I do. We are a fast-paced, innovative, and ownership-driven culture. Bias for action aka “just do it” is rewarded and complacency or status quo is not. It depends on what you want in your career I suppose. Amazon offers a lot in terms of career as we are branching out into many different areas whether that be retail and grocery sales, cloud services through AWS, AI devices through Alexa or even advertising. We offer a lot of career choices. What type of business gets you excited to be a part of?

I have been in Amazon before I joined FB. The work profile of fb is much better. FB tools for BI are way ahead of Amazon (yes better that what AWS offer). Also the compensation range is much higher in FB.

Curious, what’s the difference in comp?

At FB, was it a general hire or to a specific team? If it was to a specific team, feel free to PM me and I can share what I know about the team. I know nothing about Amazon, but life at FB is great in general. However, most product teams have fewer designers and data folks (data scientist, growth marketing analyst, etc.) than required to support the entire team, which leads to less than ideal work-life balance conditions for them (almost non-existent on some teams). Something to keep in mind if WLB is important to you.

WLB sucks at amazon too

I worked at amazon before joining Facebook. I agree that Facebook is the only real choice here. Congrats on the offers.

If offers are the same but one is in Seattle whereas the other is in the Bay, wouldn’t he net more in Seattle?

In the short term and strictly money-wise? Yes.
