I just got an offer for 138k at a newly well funded startup in the FinTech sector. I’m not sure if I should take it because:

Current job pros (+) and cons (-)
++ like the people
+ good tech, rewarding projects
+ flexible hours/remote
+ first job out of college, took me in covid (guilt to stay)
- - salary not competitive for NYC (recent raise)
- - sporadic large projects with lots of pressure, poor WLB for a few weeks when this happens.
- - not well funded, questionable future, although recently been doing very well revenue wise
- half the team/mgmt is 2 hours behind, harder to sign off

New Job
++ Good salary
+ good tech / product
+ recent funding
+ mgmt on east coast, NYC HQ
+ remote first, hybrid optional
- - start up WLB culture, lots to do, little time. Likely 45+ hrs a week
- developing team, hiring a lot now. Not stable structure and development cycle

YEO: ~1.5
For the TC or GTFO: Both are pure salary position, waiting on the new place to see if they will offer me something on top.

    Take the new job, 45+ is excellent WLB especially for a startup. BTW good summary!

      Thanks. It’s hard for me, the other job is my first job out of college. I was hired in may, when covid was bad. I know my boss will be very disappointed.

      At the same time, when I got my promotion I told them I wanted to negotiate my salary increase from what they were giving me (107) to 115, which I felt was more competitive for where I live. He tried to say I would be up for another promotion in 6-12 months, but I pushed for what he could do now and the best he said he could do is bring it up to 109. That motivated me to start looking.

    Hopefully the startup has good management. My experience with fin tech/marketing startups in NYC is that the leadership is often kinda bad

      The one good thing I’m getting from the company is that leadership is pretty good. I met most of them in the interview process. They asked me good questions, and seemed genuinely interested in being good leaders.

      Nope, I applied to them. They asked for a codepen to react component prompt in the application process. I thought I did well on that, but they never end up interviewing me. Did you interview with them band get an offer?
