Edit: got the rejection email stating I can apply to other positions but won't be considered for the role I interviewed for. They won't share feedback so I am not disheartened to apply for future roles. How would I improve myself if I don't know why I lacked in the first place :(
Pardon my ignorance but this is my first post on here
I had an interview (first phone screen)with AWS for an L6 position in Canada. It's a technical role that allows me to get my hands dirty and is something I don't get an opportunity at my current job.
The interview went really well and unlike my previous experiences where the interviewer was just asking questions from a checklist, this one felt more conversational and comfortable. The interviewer was very nice and gave me more details when I ask for clarification of a question.
One of the last questions I was asked was a simple technical design architecture and I answered it while asking for more details about it. Once the interview was done, I remembered I had forgotten a tiny detail from a security standpoint of the architecture so I guessed the interviewers' email (easy because I work with AWS proserv at my current job) and sent the answer over to him stating "hey xyz, thanks for your time today for the interview and it was a really good experience. With regards to the last question, I believe I left out one tiny aspect and just wanted to let you know that I would add this to the architecture I defined on call to make it more secure"
He reverted to thank me for the follow up and providing the information.
Now I think I might have overstepped to email but if he'd already made up his mind and I emailed I got nothing to lose. If he'd not made up his mind then maybe I did something different from other applicants to leave an impression.
Thoughts? I was honest about the answers, the ones I guessed I told him my logical reason for guessing it and I may be wrong and the ones I didn't know I said I don't know. The interviewer was trying to pivot me towards the answers by asking me questions related to whatever I didn't know until I either came to the answer or said my knowledge is limited but I'd like to learn.
I have interviewed at AWS every year and never made it post first phone screen. I get really nervous and screw up also the interviewers are just there to get it done and move on so never felt comfortable.
Based on the information, I may get a call for loop. What do you guys think? Did I take the right call to email the person or he'd already made up the decision. Still waiting on yay or nay for next round cause the interview was in second half of Wednesday. #aws #interview #phoneinterviewquestions
