I wanted to know from experienced folks here what are the “must have” skills for a data analyst role? I’m looking to shift career, learning regressions and using R in my spare time currently.

Also, where would maximum analytics jobs be? (I’m in New England) Thanks.

SQL or to query tables is considered a great skill to posses. Req gathering, data validation techniques, acquiring business acumen(comes with time spent) and at the added bonus is to visualize the data in a reporting tool.

I have worked in sales/marketing for 6 years as a manager earlier, I’m hoping some of the experience gained there will help me in that regard. Thank you answering the questions!

Yep. There are plenty jobs to go arnd. Also, let’s say you master SQL and a reporting tool, it also opens up doors for new roles such as Data engineers, BI specialists and such.

If you want to stay in New England, I'd target Healthcare companies as the best income to Work/Life balance ratio.

Learn SQL for sure, Python and R are definite pluses for Data science roles, SAS is on the way out but is the pre-clinical data analysis standard, Tableau is the most transferable visualization skill.

Once you get past basic SQL queries and joins what else is there to know that would be useful?
