My teammate (Male) is always on the phone at work. 1) He is rarely seen on his desk ~4 hours in 7-8 hours workday. Of the time he is not on the desk he is wearing headphones and walking around and outside the building 2) He always has a privacy screen with super low brightness and doesn't mind working in a weird posture so his screen can't be seen 3) He does an average job and gets past the bar of doing work. 4) His coding practices are worst I have ever seen and his approach is always a quick fix to the code No idea how to deal with him. I can avoid working with him by picking up independent stories however we are building the same product as a team and I will have to support it one day. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks TC: 110k (Indianapolis)
If you remove the additional ethnicity information (Indian) , it would be still a legit question. Adding it to your question seems somehow irrelevant
For a second, I thought this was about me. Had a mild panic attack, all good now, going back to my walk around the building.
Lol when recession comes one fine day when you try to re-enter your badge will be deactivated. Jk
Sometimes when recessions hit one fine day, it's the hardworking put-their-head-down types who find that their badge no longer works. While the kind of person you're complaining about is still around. Just sayin'
Brah did you not get the memo? Work isn't everything, enjoy life
Yea that is true but at least work for 2 hours properly. Don't demoralize the team with such practices
Documentation is your friend here! Document the poor practices, the poor design etc., Then bring it up with your manager and show them the impact on the product.
Thanks, beaver, will brainstorm on this. Does anyone in Amazon get away with this kind of behavior?
Tons of folks! Every large company has this problem to some extent
He's definitely outsourcing work to his little cousin in India.
Lol products so complex people take three months to onboard. Not sure but can be a possibility
How do u know he is actually not working. Are u the manager? Worry about your own work if you aren’t.
His overall attitude towards his work and just pretending to be busy and regurgitating the same points in the meeting. I am a team member. Yes I complete my work but he doing sub-par work on dependent pieces and low quality on overall product affects me.
Maybe that's why Jira and Confluence suck big time
Depends on your position and priority. If you are team lead / manager call 1 on 1 or increase work . If he has some personal issue.. bring it on table. If he is genuine dick, time to confront
Thanks
If you are just a team member.. then befriend with him and tell him if he is going through some issue and you can help me... He seems very demotivated.. may be he needs change ..
Turns out I have started to step foot on the same boat, too much scrum BS.
Tell him to get the fuck off the phone, lol.
1. Code reviews 2. Follow his lead and work less, do things you like outside of work instead
Thank you
