Had the worst experience interviewing at Snapchat. WORST. The interviewer was yawning throughout the interview. Even after seeing me struggle for 20min he gave me no hint. I asked him for hints since he wanted a specific solution which didn’t match my proposed solution but he literally wasted all my time. At the end I came up with the solution with just one hint but didn’t catch one edge case since there was no time. (He gave me hint in last 15min) Condescending tone when i gave current work example. YAWNing again n again every 5min. He was LEAST interested in how/what I was thinking. I have offers from Microsoft, Dropbox and Qualtrics and in final interview stage with Facebook and Google. So believe me I’m not one of those dumb interviewee that you just want to waste time with. I have taken more than 100 interviews at Amazon and have seen THE WORST candidates but never behaved differently to them so that they can get a good experience. Frankly if I knew this is how Snapchat deals with candidates then I would have never signed up for it. Recruiter was great but the interviewer was *****. #snapchat #interview
What’s the interviewers name haha
Was this phone screen?
I had similar experience with a Snapchat Seattle engineer who was also ex-Amazon. Some people don't know how to interview.
i understand “don’t know how to interview” but he was just being ridiculous and felt like he was happy that the candidate was struggling. 😜 It was pissing me off and making me laugh at his immaturity at the same time.
Ex-amazon people have screwed up that office. Especially the leadership. 🙄
I had a very similar experience and the interviewer was acting weird throughout the phone interview. He was biting his fingers and making some kinda noise with his fingers (like flicking), had a very thick accent and it was hard for me to understand his questions. I was able to code my solution pretty quick and then he threw in a hard problem with 20 minutes left on the clock and zero hints. I have done 100+ interviews at FB and mostly all of them are for E5/6 levels and this experience was terrible in my entire 10+ year career. I wanted to ping the Em or Director on LinkedIn but decided not to. And, yeah, rejected after the phone screen with zero feedback
Yeah seems pretty normal for snapchat interviews I guess. I read a lot of similar experiences on Glassdoor after my interview. Not sure why they don’t care about it at all.
You should give feedback. At least to the recruiter if nothing else. It is in her best interest to not match candidates with assholes who won't pass them even if they are qualified.
That's not how an interviewer is trained or supposed to do. We should encourage candidate to succeed but jot give away solution. No interviewers should enjoy when others are struggling.
@yelp i totally understand your point of G FB and Snap being hard to crack, and I’m actually being a bit emotional since I actually had hopes with Snap. That said, I’m at Offer stage with Google and had great interview with Fb which will most likely result into an offer. So if G and FB can be so great with their interviews (had great experience with both) why can’t Snap. Does Snap think they are better than G and FB just coz they pay a bit better. Candidate experience is high priority even at labor market like Amazon(no pun intended)
Happens man. You have to remember these losers are happy when they reject others because it makes them feel smarter.
Yeah true, just sharing the experience so that if any snapchat recruiter visits this page may be they do something about it for better candidate experience. (I doubt though)
dm me the interviewer name
Haha I had a bad experience with a Snapchat interviewer too. The guy said “let’s start with an easy problem as a warmup” and then asked a LC hard. If I interview someone from Snapchat, I will have to ask something ridiculous like implement a garbage collector.
haha and ask them to implement in O(1) for the whole memory 😜😜
G: I literally lol-ed
You’re anyways not going to join them with the other offers in hand. Chuck it and move on. The interviewer sucked.
Actually i am a heavy user of snapchat and given the comp and interest in their app, i might have joined.
Charter, why not snap?
