I boombed interview with Karat (hiring/screening partner) a year ago. Soo, how is it from the inside? Is it still the work to die for? Is it online chat for kids? Does it have the-all-best tech stack and best on the market superstar-engineers? I am just curious how the strategy to filter people out with leetcode-like problems works on a long term. Stock does not grow that much as it seens, even X-tier Intuit grows faster. Blind tax: TC 180ish, 15yoe PS My goals are experience & projects and decent WLB, not the max(💰). I am committed to software engineering for life. Update @ 2023: Roblox is sued & will go down (Gaming Industry) https://www.teamblind.com/us/s/SHXrZhrC ~ stock lost ~ 30%
Even with worse growth… they pay a lot in dollar amount of grants.
Sure.
It is a social platform used by most of the next generation of children. They create worlds and share. In a world full of unidirectional stimulation, I think it's a role like GW-BASIC. It's worth it. But, karat is a bad idea. once you go through the karat interview, you can meet brilliant people.
Definitely worth it 😊. Also my org (game engine) doesn’t do karat
Since when it doesn’t? I referred a friend a year ago and they did go through Karat, twice
Oh maybe they just don’t do it for everyone. I interviewed a bit over a year ago, my team at least doesn’t use it for hiring.
Definitely worth it 😁
In my personal experience, I have found the people here to be thoughtful and direct. I learn new things almost every day and am a better engineer now than I was a year ago. The problem space is genuinely interesting and not all pre-packaged solutions will work.
This. Sometimes I'm genuinely worried thinking that there has to be something I'm missing. That it can't be all so reasonable.
No ppl with negative experience yet? How wonderful ❤
Organizationally things could be less siloed, but it hasn't stopped me from building what my customers need, so it's not really been much of a problem so far...
That silo is everywhere. I wonder which company does not have it.
I've been at Roblox almost a year. I'm very happy and wouldn't consider leaving. Interesting work; smart, kind and thoughtful coworkers. Happy with my compensation (but not sharing, sorry)
I think people would be interested in the comp, but for me important part is actual job and projects.
Badsky: in my experience, working in 3d graphics, most engineers dont actually get to work on 3d graphics. Everybody is doing other related stuff that isnt "the good stuff" for someone like me. At Roblox there is still a lot of file wrangling, server and data, etc etc.but a lot of us are actually doing what I consider "the fun stuff." Many of us get to work with matrices, vectors, geometry, curves, motion, physics, and things like that as part of our everyday jobs. A much higher percentage, it seems to me, than in other 3d companies I've worked for
You guys are not telling me something. Brilliant people, interesting tech doesn't sit well with recent 40h+ outage.
Okay you caught us. Roblox actually gives us a triple top secret stock bonus if we talk them up on blind. I could get fired just for telling you about it.
You are getting top secret stock bonus right now 🙃
It is interesting how things change over time. I have added the first update to the original post after 2 years, and it seems people have different opinion/voice. If anyone is still active from the commenters/contributors above, do you stand by your original comment or share the same sentiment as in "Roblox is sued & will go down": https://www.teamblind.com/us/s/SHXrZhrC
I think Karat let's you schedule a second interview with no questions asked clause. If you feel you bombed it, just let them know and they will give you a second chance.
Obviously I did it twice 🤪
