Heard there's still forced arbitration, but are they doing anything to address the issues brought up? Context: https://kotaku.com/over-150-riot-employees-walk-out-to-protest-forced-arbi-1834566198
I have no idea, but I hope it ends with them attacking their women employees less!
No more attacking emotional support animals either! ...if there was any of that.
I've only seen one emotional support animal around the office. It's a dog and no one has attacked it.
They created a D&I Council....forced arbitration hasn't really changed
So nothing. As D&I councils do not really do anything but look good on paper
Worse, D&I actually produces worse outcomes. https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/05/study-telling-liberals-about-white-privilege-reduces-empathy-poor-whites/
League's community is toxic for a reason...hopefully it's something they learn to address
you can have a game with a toxic community and not sexually harass your employees
Yes just like amazon... toxic culture but no sexual harassment
This never really does work out well when they behave like children and use the current accusations to push other issues. Also Kotaku isn't an unbiased source, especially when it involves industry members with similar politics.
What exactly is childish about this?
Apparently, walking out and pressuring employers to change is childish. Remember all those children who walked out in the 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s, and 70s? They literally gave their blood and life so you can have a fairer, safer work place by walking out. Every concession made by business owners in the last century, from which everyone of us benefited, has been thanks to the blood and tears of organised men and women workers. Everyday I go home at 5 pm, safe and sound to see my wife and kids, I remember the sacrifices these people made, despite every generation telling them versions of your comment.
I don’t think this will change unless the top management leaves or replaced, unfortunately. This all starts from the top and works it’s way down
Just need to fire a few incompetent and immature senior leaders like Thomas Vu or Scott Gleb. Don’t know why they are still holding senior positions after being reported AND showed no results for the teams they led
You can say that for TVu but how for Scott? He built the entire tech org.
Neither Riot nor League of Legends would be where it is today without Scott Gelb. Has he been immature in the past? If he's actually done what is rumored about him, then yes. As both a technologist and a technology leader, he is quite competent.
Non Union/non-bargained for employees that walk out or “strike” make no sense to me. You don’t get union protections and not be union. They can fire you and that be that.
It was a walkout, a protest. Not a strike per se. Unions have a set of preconditions that have to be met before they will vote to strike. This wasn't anything like that.
It sure got us talking about it. That is its purpose.
It began a conversation which is still in progress. Folks seem to still be doing things. There's just not a very high focus on external media.
I'm a male in the gaming industry and have witnessed the raw power and potential of having more women and minorities in this industry. I like to think we are in a very progressive company and still I'm shocked when I learn of how females or minorities are 'handled' by rubbish 'leaders'. These old executives need to retire already. Gaming is no longer some nerdy basement club for boys. Everyone needs to feel safe and welcome for this industry to take the next step.
Does "raw power" mean changing the concept character from a generic white male to a black female? Get real, don't treat anyone differently because of their gender or ethnicity. Minorities aren't a commodity that makes your game better. This goes both ways. I thought everyone was supposed to be equal?
Everyone knows white women and especially white men are worthless in the workplace. It's all about how much pigment in your skin equates to how intelligent and diverse you are. Their most diverse group of people is actually all minorities and NO WHITES. It's really a joke at this point and I'm surprised to still see it being a thing.
Gaming industry really needs to get better in terms of sexism
Good.
