There are definitely a ton of phony ass "liberals" and "progressives" in the tech community that only care about their image so they just virtue signal all the days of their lives. ... BUT the biggest problem with the black community in the US is this. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2013/jul/29/don-lemon/cnns-don-lemon-says-more-72-percent-african-americ/
I’m white and I think the author is on point,
^ thanks for making my point
Ok Tarball, show us the data that unequivocally proves that “black people are dumb as shit” and that’s the reason they aren’t being hired
Same shit in other countries not only in USA, you can be a genius, but if you are a black man say bye to the jobs. And basically anywhere in the world black women would go through magnitude more of mansplaining and sexism than white women. It is all fucked.
None of these statistics mention whether those degrees were from good universities. The reality is that outside top schools, most CS grads cannot code for shit. Even plenty of grads from top schools cannot code for shit. The unfortunate reality is that most people of colour in the US go to crappy universities, because they don't have the means to go somewhere better. The obsession in the US with college education as a means of social mobility means that people will go into serious debt to send their kids to a terrible school. That doesn't mean they're any less intelligent, they were just not given the same opportunities. Yes, this is a pipeline problem. Unqualified grads are not unique to CS. The only difference is in the tech industry we have a relatively quantifiable and reasonable way of finding out whether they're qualified. We ask them to code, if they can, great, if they can't, no. No, it's not perfect, it could be a lot better, but it's a hell of a lot better than a bs HR interview, which is what basically every other industry uses. And I'm not saying racism or sexism isn't a problem in the tech industry, because it absolutely is. But this is uninformed bullshit. And no, I didn't go to an ivy league /top tier. I have experienced this first hand. (Also I'm not white, although fucking hell, I shouldn't have to say that to get my point across)
The title by itself ends the conversation. The author has no desire to change, or even try to change, anything. I certainly am not going to listen to anything that starts out with an F.U.
This author is such a fucking moron and a loser -- cant succeed so he has to find someone and some group to blame. If they were really that good they would have started their own companies, gotten hired, promoted, etc. i know plenty of white and asian males passed up for diversity quotas given to "diversity" (i call them handicaps) who dont know how to hold their dick's while peeing in the bathroom.
Recruiters are constantly told to focus on diversity. If you can't get noticed as a.female or minority in tech. You need to change your profile. you are the first people to be reached out to all day every day.
Historically no people today has ever owned a slave. In a free market, wealth creates better economy and improved technology that makes almost everyone in US away from starvation and opportunity to get education. Many people in America came from a lot worse paces, grow up with barely enough food and mediocre educations but they still can strive. I would simply argue that opportunities are there, but to seize them one needs dedication and motivation. The good life and fortune doesn't come for free. I consider it is more like of a culture problem than social oppression.
The author is indeed racist, and their opinion totally uninformed.
How insightful. Please go take a seat.
I can probably fashion a sweet chair from all these likes.
