My wife hasn’t been there and we are considering driving to Mt. Rainier. Details on weatger and road condotions will help. We plan to stay in the car and enjoy the views while parked and the drive along.
Cheers!#amazon #seattle #microsoft

even if the mountain is still closed, it is still worth the drive to a ski resort.

And tbh i dont remember driving to the paradise resort was that special. Not that it isnt beatiful, the thing is the higher u drive up the smaller the mountain looks to u. And paradise isnt high enough to provide the breath taking overview since u dont plan hiking (and it is suicide to hike now anyway for most people)

      OP
Any other route or location you would recommend? It’s my wife’s b’day and I’m thinking a nice drive is a reasonable option given the situation. Thanks for your reply.

i would definitely recommend visiting rainier in summer when weather and covid situation are much better. a short hiking can give u a lot of interesting wildlife exp up from paradise. It should be still very chilly now if the mountain is open at all which i doubt.

and if it is birthday tour i suggest somewhere close so u can return on same day with ease to stay safe. I miss my trip to north cascade loop (sr 20) and Ross dam a lot more than mt rainier. But it could be a little tiring if u want to make it back on the same day. The time i visited there we had a thunderstorm in the mountains out of nowhere and the view was kinda like life changing exp

  • 410 to Sunrise to Paradise is a great drive, but it's way too early in the season. Cayuse pass is closed, it's still snowing at Paradise with 10ft+ around the parking lot.

  • It’s closed right now. When it opens, go to sunrise and do some hikes around there. Less crowded and still good views.

I wouldn’t say it’s very drive friendly. It’s nice but there are better options if you just want to drive in your car. Checkout Cascade loop or north cascades instead. North cascades probably won’t open for a while.

  • If cascades is open that’s a good drive too
