Hello! I've been offered a software developer position in Berlin and was planning on taking it up. I have my HR round next week and was wondering if there was anything specific I should keep an eye out for. I have been working as an ML Engineer for the past year. I've never stayed in Germany so it'll be a whole new experience, I'm looking forward to it. The company is a pretty well established enterprise in the aerospace domain. 1. Was wondering what the culture is like wrt negotiating compensation and work in general 2. How much should I expect as I don't want them to low-ball me 3. Any do's and don'ts that you can help me out with. Really appreciate any information! YoE: 2
Yo! I work in Berlin as a SWE, so I can answer this. It depends on experience. Pretty much all companies start with a one year contract, and then if they like you you’ll get the perm contract. This is because once you get the perm contract, the company can’t fire you without a shit ton of legal work and compensation. Junior devs typically start at 42k, like fresh outta school. After a year you can get between 48-58. Senior devs make between 68-75. The best guys get over 80, but that’s at bigger companies like DH and Zalando.
