BREAKING: Sony is buying Bungie, the maker of Destiny — another seismic gaming deal that comes just two weeks after Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard. “Sony confirmed it plans to spend a sizable portion of its Bungie buyout offer on retention. Sony says it is prepared to pay 1/3rd of its $3.6 billion buyout proposal, or roughly $1.2 billion, on a long-term incentive plan that will reward Bungie employees who stay with the company. Sony will pay the remainder $2.4 billion for a direct buyout of Bungie's private shares. The bonus is aimed at keeping Bungie's current staff intact after the acquisition.” #gaming
Yea got the news from a "surprise" meeting in the morning~
Hmm just interviewed there. How's the temperature on it? Surprises usually aren't good...
At least my team was quite happy about the news! (I think the majority reason is that everyone got a whole chunk of rsu --- gonna turn into cash) Bungie's WLB might be the boosted version of MSFT, tons of ptos(mine still 58 available), loose schedule, some teams have no meeting Thursday, the entire studio has game testing Friday.
Any bungie employees gonna share how much they got in the buyout? Curious!

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
I thought they were owned by Microsoft?
Microsoft acquired Bungie in 2000, but they split in 2007. However, Microsoft still retained ownership of Halo IP. Bungie currently only owns the Destiny franchise
How? Microsoft just gave up even though they bought them?
