Phone interview soon. Im in a hard science (not computer/IT related). My current TC would be considered good for my position outside of the SF, but is lousy here. I am actively looking for positions out of the state as well. I know SpaceX has the reputation of low pay, but would they make any attempt to try to match or get close to my current salary? The position and the science seems awesome to me, but it is definitely a no go if I wouldn’t be making near what I am now.
sucks to work there from people i know who have recently quit after less than 1 year
If they like you, they'll try to match/outbid.
Ask for a bit more than you currently make so when they low ball you you'll come out even.
Any general advice for the first technical phone interview?
Read the glass door interview for your dept. They don't change often. Also don't say I don't know when asked a tech question but also don't fake it. At least try to work out the problem.
Phone interviews went well, but they have apparently put this position on hold for now. At least they told me this and didn’t ghost me.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
They pay competitively but expect to be working very long hours. Which makes it kind of not competative vs other companies
