Any spacex employee got insight to their company compensation? Engineering with ~10 yrs experience. Interested in information on base salary, bonus, perks, work environment.
I've heard they don't pay very well... Glassdoor seems to reflect that as well.
Not engineering, but I've heard SpaceX and Blue Origin get people post-MBA on the super cheap because many millennials would give an arm and a leg to work there. (Something about having a "fulfilling career"...)
borringggg. "sounds like someones trying to get laid" Rick to Morty.
you don't work at SpaceX for the money:) Though I would say that people who joined early would have money in stocks. Paper money. They have no intention of going IPO soon
Our stock is privately traded and there is buy back several times a year, so it is not paper money. But it is true, you don't work here for the money.
I joined in 2014 and my shares would have been worth almost 500k if I stayed til they fully vested. I've been able to sell some so it was a pretty good deal
following
I suggest to pass the interview, ask questions and then decide. I'm happy with my choice even though I had much bigger offers. I'd say this is opportunity of a lifetime, and at the same time you don't have to work here forever. Your choice.
Do u guys have good work life balance?
It is pretty good, you define how much you work. Some work 40 hours and are pretty successful, most software devs seem to work around 45-50, some are always at work, but that's their choice. There are and will be crunch modes each team once in a while too. Overall leadership is trying to move away devs from hero mentality towards more sustainable work load.
When I joined SpaceX as Software Engineer I had competing offers from Microsoft(L62), Amazon and three other companies and everyones' base and total compensation was lower than SpaceX even after a bidding war.
Can anyone here share actual numbers and level? So far, we just have one person saying "less than other tech companies" and one saying "more than other tech companies" 🤷♂️
Experience and advaced degrees are under valued. Fresh grad = specialist tech @ SpaceX. Masters degree and 6 years experience elsewhere = entry level SpaceX engineer. PhD and 10 years experience elsewhere = Sr. SpaceX Egineer. What maters is how long you have been at SpaceX. $70k -$120k is the range you can expect in LA. Good Luck.
Sounds like outside experience is getting hit hard... masters = 2 yrs exp and phd = 4 yrs exp in boeing, utc, and many other aerospace companies. Is there level(s) beyond sr engineer? Is 120k max starting salary or general cap?
There's no general cap but you get into salary range of management or highly specialized technical person after around $120k
